what to expect

important information to help guide you through the remodeling process.

transforming your idea into reality
We understand that remodeling your home can be a very exciting, rewarding, but also stressful time. At New Beginnings Construction, Inc., we want to hear all your thoughts and ideas for a clear understanding of what the remodel is intended to accomplish. Anything can be built-- but there are usually options that are more realistic, more inexpensive or just more practical. We'll help you sort through these ideas and work with you so that the remodel fits your specific needs, goals, and budget.

working smart saves time & money
Unless you have an unlimited budget, your contractor should be involved in the design process with the architect or designer. When they work together you'll have a better chance of having something designed within your budget. Jeff Hawks, President of New Beginnings Construction, Inc. will meet you at your home to discuss your remodeling needs. It's important to have a budget in mind prior to proceeding with the design of your project. This should be discussed at the initial meeting to make sure your expectations are in line with your budget constraints. Jeff will work with you to make sure you get exactly what you are expecting of your remodel, steering the project to the most creative and best use of your time and money.

the design & bidding process
If an architect or draftsperson is needed, we will schedule another meeting at your house. We will then begin the preliminary plans that will help us both visualize and accurately bid your project. After the preliminary plans have been reviewed, a final "permit set" will have all the details necessary for an accurate bid. Once the final plans have been approved, we'll schedule a construction diagnostic meeting at your home. Jeff will meet with our subcontractors and vendors to get an accurate bid and help avoid any potential challenges that may not be shown on the blueprints. We feel very strongly that this meeting is imperative to accurately bid a project and to help eliminate costly change orders for things that may not be depicted on the blueprints.

the contract and other legal documents
Jeff will go over the final contract at the signing. Along with the contract are documents that are required by law and the Contractor’s State License Board (CSLB). These items are:

  • 3-Day Cancellation document. Did you know you have 3 days to cancel after the signing of the contract?
  • Notice to Owner. This is a warning notice describing liens and ways to prevent them.
  • A sample document of a pre-lien notice that is sent out via certified letter after the contract is signed and the project has started. This notice is to protect you, the owner.
  • Voluntary arbitration guide.

Once the contract has been signed and the project start payment received, the project will begin.

Down Payment: Did you know that the down payment may not exceed $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less? It is against the law for a contractor to collect payment for work not yet completed, or for materials not yet delivered.

your project schedule
Because every project is different in size and complexity, the project schedule for your own remodel will also vary accordingly. For example, a room addition will take longer to complete than a cosmetic remodel. Jeff will provide you with a tentative schedule of events so you will know in general what to expect as the project progresses. Jeff is always available to answer any questions you have, and will be your main contact throughout your project. Of course, you can always contact the office at (707) 576-9102 if you have any concerns or questions, but usually Jeff is the best person to answer project-type questions.

A thought to remember; the bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
